Located in Newquay, Cornwall, this is the most famous surfing beach in the UK. It gets packed at the height of the season and to be honest, is best avoided then.
There are breaks all along the beach, depending on the tide and the sand formation at the time. South Fistral is slightly more sheltered when conditions are big, and can offer protection from south west winds. At the northern end Little Fistral breaks towards the rocks at low tide.
Pay-and-display car park at North Fistral, crêche, changing, toilet and shower facilities in the International Surfing Centre. If the car park is full, the beach is 15 minutes walk from Newquay town centre. At South Fistral, parking is on the street, with toilet facilities and steps down to the beach.
Lifeguards at both ends during the holiday season, with areas designated for bathing. Remember that this is is a busy beach and when big, the surf can be very intimidating for the inexperienced. There is a surf museum, surf shops and hire facilities.
