Global Boarders Coaching and Lesson Structure

Coaching and Lesson Structure

Anyone who can swim 25 metres or more confidently and unaided, regardless of age, can take part in a surf lesson.

We are a mobile surf school with the surf shop and booking office based in Marazion.

How does it work?

Call us on 0845 330 9 303 to talk about your requirements and to book a lesson.

The day before your lesson we'll call you and tell you where your lesson will be. It will nearly always be either at Gwithian on the north coast, at Hayle, or Praa Sands on the south coast.

If you prefer, we can pick you and / or your unaccompanied child up from our surf shop / booking office in Marazion, 30 minutes before the lesson. [All staff are CRB cleared]

If you are meeting us at the beach, we'll be ready to meet you, 15 minutes before your lesson; look out for the big Global Boarders Surf School van at the point where you have been told to meet us.

Uniquely, we can offer childcare otions via our registered childminder. Emily can look after children of all ages, who do not take part in the surf lesson, either at the beach or take them to a local attraction. Call us for more details.

Don't forget if you are a group of 6 to 8 we will pick you up and drop you back!

Meet the instructors here!

Lessons follow the following format:

  • We start with an overview of the basic safety instructions we'll be using including whistle blows and hand signals allowing at all times for you as Global Boarders guests to have fun in the safest environment possible.
  • We follow with an explanation of the equipment that we will be using (although guests are welcome to bring their own) and which boards and wetsuits Global Boarders consider to be the best for each individual.
  • We then explain the basic handling of the board.
  • Then we'll get into the sea, get out to the right depth, show you how to turn the board and start catching waves!

From standing we will aim to get you:

  • Making 'angled take offs' allowing you to progress along the wave instead of straight in.
  • Gaining a better understanding of how the board is working under your feet, i.e. the transfer of balance to speed up or slow down and utilising this to help you turn.
  • Depending on personal ability we can then move on to riding 'green waves' (now we are really surfing!) - the art of riding unbroken waves.
  • For the total natural at this stage we can start to turn on the face of the wave and hang out in the green room!

It is as easy as it sounds, we promise!

As with any tuition given by our instructors, lessons are entirely guest led allowing for a comfortable and productive surfing session. We will always follow the most useful and progressive surf tuition package allowing for you to achieve a basic level of surfing which you can then progress in your own time or come back and visit us again. You'll leave with your Global Boarders / BSA diploma and a newfound passion for surfing!
